Who is the first person you think about when you’ve accomplished something, bought something, or posted something? Are you doing things for the approval of others? It’s ok if you are because I know we all have been there before, but the question here is why? What are we looking to gain once we can show off? Is it recognition? A few likes? Followers? All of that’s nice, but it’s also temporary and only holds so much weight. It’s unfulfilling. What fulfills me is knowing that I’m doing what I love as my most authentic self.
Now, don’t get me wrong. It wasn’t until 2022 that I started tapping into the realist, rawest, most genuine version of myself. It took a very long time for me to get here, and I’m still a work in progress. I’m happy that I’ve grown so much to recognize that I’ve been living my life wrong and in an unfulfilling way.
I get a lot of questions from people about how I started my content creation journey, how to get brand deals, how to show up for myself while being a new mom, how to grow my following, and so on. Truthfully, here are the answers to all of those questions.
Three things I started doing to ensure I was being authentic when it came to creating.
1.Post & Go
If you’re there to inspire and influence others, post your message/content and move along. Don’t stalk your analytics and refresh once you get likes. It’s giving desperate. You’ve done what you needed to do; now let the magic begin and LOG OFF.
The “Post & Go” method can be so satisfying! There’s nothing like posting, closing out the app, and then living life outside of your phone, AND THEN a few hours later, you check your phone, and your notifications are going crazy! It happens to me all the time, and I love the feeling.
2.Show up as the real you.
The internet is full of pretenders/actors. People show the glamorous side of their life and make everything appear perfect. We know life isn’t perfect, and there isn’t such a thing as a perfect person. So, once I started keeping that in the back of my mind, that’s when I decided to show up as myself in my most authentic form.
True form is not being afraid to show me when I’m not put together 100%. I would love to look fabulous and have that rich girl aesthetic, but let’s be honest here 1. I have a toddler and 2. I have a toddler, AND I’M NOT RICH. I refuse to “fake it til I make it” because I’m as real as they come, and if I have a message that God put on my heart and I don’t have a beat face, or it’s toys in my background, I’m going to be obedient and spread that message.
I gained so much respect and a following based on my transparency. I learned that people gravitate toward individuals they can relate to, and I do the same. I want to be relatable over untouchable.
3.Stop caring what others think.
I can’t tell you how often people have said they want to start doing x, y, and z, but they fear what others may think of them. Let me tell you this: hear me loud and clear WHO CARES WHAT OTHERS THINK! If you like it, learn to love it. Here’s a hard truth, not everyone will agree with you or think everything you do is worthy and good, BUT you have to be able to stomach that. Some days you may get thousands of people supporting you, and the next day you may only get 1. Learn to move with intention because when you proceed with intention, nobody’s opinion can deter you from doing what you want to do in your life.
As you begin your journey as an individual showing up for yourself and a content creator, please go into it with clear and pure intentions. When you learn the art of authenticity, everything starts to fall into place perfectly just for you.
